If you are one of the many that owns an exotic snake, or if you are thinking about getting a snake, there are a few things you should know about taking care of your snake. Exotic snakes need special care and attention, especially when it comes to feeding and security. Take a look at our tips for taking care of your pet snake.

1.    Make sure you have proper shelter. With snakes, especially a big snake like a Burmese python, safety in regards to shelter should be your number one concern. Make sure the shelter gives your snake enough room to move around, but you’ll also want to make sure it is secure so your snake doesn’t escape. Your neighbors might not appreciate a big snake slithering into their backyard!

2.    Feed your snake the right food. Different types of snakes eat different types of food. Make sure you’re feeding your snake correctly. If your snake is carnivores, then mice or rats might be a good choice.

3.    Take care when cleaning the cage or feeding. Big snakes, like the Burmese or red-tailed boas required extra attention when it comes to care. These are huge snakes and can be very strong, so use extra caution, especially while feeding.

4.    Choose a good vet. You’ll need to choose a vet that knows about snakes in order to get the right care.

Before you choose an exotic snake as a pet, be sure to do your research and know the behaviors of different types of snakes. You’ll want to pay extra attention to the type of snake you get as a pet, especially if you have children in your home. Take care and choose wisely when it comes to owning an exotic snake as a pet.
